After spending years trying to find the perfect pillow for his patients, Dr. Andrew Macfarlane DC, DO, realized that it is not so much about the pillow. What is more important is how the pillow is selected and whether or not it matches all four critical factors that you should look for in a pillow. Upon realizing this he developed the world’s first Neck Compression Index, this is a unique method for measuring the amount of compression your neck experiences while using a pillow.
This led Dr. Macfarlane to realize that there were really no effective “off the shelf” pillows on the market. These pillows were made from petrochemical based foams, sprayed with chemicals to prolong the life of the pillow and a true menace to people with allergies. On top of all of that these pillows offered little to no support for your neck and shoulders. This led Dr. Macfarlane to begin working on a new kind of pillow. One that was not only extremely effective for his patients but also environmentally friendly (both of which are extremely important to him).
Håvard graduated as a Chiropractor from Macquarie University in 2006. Soon after graduation he stated working in a busy clinic in Sydney’s Inner West where he saw patients from the very young to the elderly.During his 6 years at this practice, Håvard took numerous courses to expand his knowledge, including Functional Neurology, Pediatrics and care for the pregnant patient.
In 2012 he decided to move back to Norway where he completed a 6 month internship, before starting up his own multi-disciplinary clinic with Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Massage Therapists.
Today, this clinic employs 8 people and has a very healthy outlook. In addition, Håvard holds the position as the Marketing Executive for the largest chain of physical therapy clinics in Norway, Klinikk For Alle.
This, in addition to Sleep Made To Measure, a beautiful little boy named Nixon and his wife Rebecca, his life contains little spare time. Whatever he gets is spent running in the beautiful nature Norway has to offer.
Rebecca graduated from Macquarie University in 2009 with a Masters of Chiropractic; she practiced for two and a half years in a busy family based practice in Sydney, seeing numerous babies and kids, many with learning difficulties. In her own words, Rebecca says, “It was speaking to these families about the lifestyle changes that they had implemented into their lives, to help their kids that got me interested into clean eating. However, it wasn’t until my sister became very ill after a trip to Thailand that my passion for a clean, non-toxic lifestyle really grew. After numerous doctor’s visits led to no glory, I made a pact with her to help heal her ailments naturally with, clean food and alternative medicine. We started a Paleo recipe based blog and Instagram account that snowballed into everything clean!
My passion is to reduce the toxic load that my family is exposed to everyday by controlling what I can, and not worrying about what I can’t. We try to eat as much organic, nourishing food as we can, use natural cleaning products, avoid plastics and use alternative medicine as much as possible.
In 2012 my husband and I moved to his Motherland, Norway. I took a year off work to learn Norwegian, and I now speak a fluent-ish language that I like to call Nor-English!! After completing my language course I worked for 2 years, before giving birth to our beautiful baby boy, Nixon. Preparing for Nixon’s arrival entailed many hours researching anything and everything you could imagine. What was the most natural bottom balm to use to the safest toys, and mattress to buy.
When I was approached to be a part of the Sleep Made to Measure team, I knew that it was a perfect fit. This company is everything that I look for both as a health care professional and as a Mum. Their products are not only fantastic for your spine, and your little one’s but also for the environment.
Jacqueline has been working in the health and fitness industry for the past 18 years and has been very fortunate to take on several roles and portfolios in this period. Even with the diverse roles, the main thing that she has always wanted to achieve is for her clients to attain overall wellbeing.Jacqueline’s journey into fitness started in 1998 with her teaching group exercise classes and personal training. After 2 years, a fitness director position in Taiwan was offered to her and her scope expanded to fitness center set up, staff management of a team of 40 , in house education and fitness department sales.
As much as she had enjoyed her time in Taiwan, she had to return to Singapore for personal reasons after a couple of years and decided to go into academia. She began teaching in a local polytechnic in the School of Sports Health and Leisure. During her time as a lecturer though, she missed the ‘real world’, the interaction and teaching her clients.
In 2008, Jacqueline opened her own Pilates studio which expanded to 4 outlets and 70 staff within 3 years and also took on an educator position with Balanced Body to train and certify instructors.
In 2015 after selling her business, Jacqueline was searching to tie up with a brand in the healthcare niche that she could introduce into Asia. Coincidentally, she was also looking for a solution for many of her clients with neck issues and she was also seeing a chiropractor on a weekly basis for her neck at that time. Her research paid off as the Pillow Made To Measure range was the answer for all her patients with neck, shoulder and back problems and who had been searching for the elusive ‘Perfect Pillow’.
With the positive feedback from everyone who had used the pillow made to measure, Jacqueline was confident that Sleep Made to Measure checked every box as the ideal brand and product that she was looking to introduce into Asia.
With an alignment of the vision and mission of the company, Dr Andrew Macfarlane and the team, Jacqueline is proud to say that she represents a company whose mission is to help everyone wake up to a better day; one pillow at a time whilst doing it in the most environmentally friendly way currently possible.
I graduated from Macquarie University Chiropractic in 2008. I then went on to complete a 2 year post graduate neurological designation through the Carrick Institute. My practice focuses on complex musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation cases. I am currently practicing in a multi-disciplinary clinic alongside an ENT surgeon and General practitioner in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
I learned the uniqueness of each patient early in practice. With this understanding, I realized that no product “as is,” “off a shelf,” could possibly provide a “one size fits all” approach to serve the sleep comfort ideally for each unique patient. Being busy in practice also prohibited me from being familiar with every product available. Guiding patients to the most appropriate sleep products through trial and error was frustrating to me.
Given how unique each person is, I found Sleep Made To Measure’s satisfaction guarantee bold. However, after experiencing first hand the simple straight forward customization process (through the online app) then sleeping on the result, I have full confidence recommending these products to my patients. The fact that this company embraces a unwavering approach to sourcing high quality environmentally conscious materials only makes it that much more attractive.
I am proud to be part of a growing group of practitioners who respect the importance high quality comfortable sleep plays in the promotion of healing and health. Naturally, I am proud to be the Canadian representative for Sleep Made to Measure Products. Everybody wins using the Sleep Made to Measure system. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how to make these worldly products available in your clinic to enhance the benefits of your care for your patients… now while they sleep.
